Legal representation of an Australian husband seeking an urgent divorce from his Irish wife, domiciled in Ireland, where the marriage had occurred and was registered, so that he could re-marry his new partner who was at the time dying from a terminal illness. The wife could not be located to be served with divorce proceedings, and, unusually, even substituted service was not possible due to the obfuscation efforts of the wife’s family. Ultimately, we were able to divorce our client from his first wife without any participation from her or even her knowledge. A unilateral international divorce – very rare, but possible.
